Bleeding time is a screening test used to assess platelet-vessel wall interaction and function. There are several ways of performing this test: Ivy Method (forearm), Template Method (forearm), and Duke Method (ear lobe), each differing in the site and size of incisions made, and their normal ranges. LONGER THAN NORMAL bleeding time may be due to blood vessel defect, platelet aggregation defect, Thrombocytopenia, von Willebrand’s disease, use of Aspirin, Bernard-Soulier disease, and Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia.
