المجموعة المرجعية

Borrelia burgdorferi is a species of Gram negative bacteria of the spirochete class of the genus Borrelia, and is the agent of Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a tick-transmitted infection which first affects the skin and then may spread to the joints, nervous system, and other body systems. Symptoms include: erythema migrans rash, arthritis-like joint pain, fever, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, and stiff neck. If left untreated, more severe symptoms can develop, including painful arthritis, joint swelling, inflammation of the heart, and central nervous system problems that could lead to mental disorders. The detection of IgG antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi indicates current of past infection. A Western blot is often required to confirm the presence of specific antibodies to the bacterium.
