C1 Esterase Inhibitor (C1s), Serum

7 Day(s)

Reference Range

C1 esterase inhibitor is a protein synthesized primarily by hepatocytes, and found in the fluid part of the body that controls C1, the first component of the complement system. It is a member of the serpin family of proteases, as are alpha-antitrypsin, antithrombin III, and angiotensinogen. This test is helpful in the diagnosis of Angioedema. DEFICIENCY of C1 esterase inhibitor causes angioedema, which is an inherited disease that causes edema of the deep dermis and subcutaneous tissues. Deficiency may also cause severe abdominal pain, or acute airway obstruction.
