INCREASED levels of chloride in urine are associated with Addison’s syndrome, adrenocortical insufficiency, increased salt intake, inflammation of the kidney that results in salt loss, and production of unusually large amounts of urine. DECREASED levels may be due to Cushing syndrome, salt retention, decreased salt intake, fluid loss that occurs with diarrhea, vomiting, and gastric suction. See Chloride, Serum
