Coxsackie viruses are separated into two groups, A and B, and each group has different serotypes. Type B viruses tend to infect the heart, pleura, pancreas, and liver, causing epidemic pleurodynia (Bornholm disease), infectious myocarditis, and infectious pericarditis. The presence of anti-coxsackie virus B1-6 antibodies indicates past or recent infection. RISING IgG levels is suggestive of current infection with the virus.
