المجموعة المرجعية

Echinococcosis (also called hydatid disease) is an infection caused by the larvae of Echinococcus granulosus or E. multilocularis. These microscopic tapeworms are often found in dogs and common livestock, especially sheep, which form the link to occasional human infection. After the tapeworm egg is eaten, it settles in the organs and cause large cysts to form. These cysts grow mainly in the liver, but can also grow in the lungs, brain and other organs. Symptoms may include jaundice, abdominal discomfort, fever, cough, chestpain, and hemoptysis. This test is used in the detection of Echinococcus antibodies which is helpful in diagnosing hydatid disease.
