IgM antibodies to the viral capsid antigen are the earliest antibodies to appear in the acute phase of the disease. IgM antibodies become detectable during the first two weeks of infection, peak after the first week of symptoms and remain detectable for 2 to 6 months. Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate from cells ASAP
