Adenoviruses are DNA viruses responsible for 4-5 percent of all respiratory illnesses. There are 41 serotypes with diverse clinical manifestations, ranging from acute pharyngoconjuctival fever and acute respiratory outbreaks to epidemic keratoconjunctivitis and intestinal tract infections. Adenoviruses are commonly acquired by contact with secretions from an infected person or by contact with a contaminated object. The presence of IgG antibodies to adenovirus indicate past infection. HIGH IgG titres indicate acute or current infection.
