The nasal smear for eosinophils is used to determine whether symptoms are caused by allergy or infection. The presence of eosinophils, especially in HIGH concentrations, indicates an allergic reaction. Therefore, this test may be of diagnostic value in the differentiation of allergy from super imposed infections, or in the attribution of a cause of asthma in children and adults. Eosinophilia may be found in allergic disorders, skin diseases, malignant neoplasm, parasitic infestations, and some infections. Other related tests: Allergen Specific IgE, Food and Inhalant Panels and Immunoglobulin E (IgE), Serum
