Hematocrit or packed cell volume (PCV) is the fraction of whole blood volume that consists of red blood cells. PCV RISES when the number of red blood cells increases or when the plasma volume is reduced, as in dehydration. It also rises due to polycythemia, megaloblastic anemia, and pernicious anemia. DECREASED hematocrit indicates over hydration or anemia, such as that caused by iron deficiency or other deficiencies.
Transport 2 mL whole blood.
