المجموعة المرجعية

Malaria is caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Plasmodium. Four species of Plasmodium can produce the disease in its various forms; P. falciparum being the most widespread and dangerous of the four. Symptoms of malaria include fever and flu-like illness, including shaking chills, headache, muscle aches, and tiredness. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may also occur. Malaria may cause anemia and jaundice due to the loss of red blood cells. Infection with one type of malaria, Plasmodium falciparum, if not promptly treated, may cause kidney failure, seizures, mental confusion, coma, and death. This test is used for the detection of Plasmodium falciparum antibodies. It is a more sensitive and less time-consuming test than malaria smear. See Malaria Smear
