Protein Electrophoresis,24 hr Urine

8 Day(s)

Reference Range

Urine protein electrophoresis is usually ordered to help diagnose the cause and estimate the severity of protein excretion due to kidney damage or disease. This damage or disease may be due to diabetes, chronic inflammation, an autoimmune condition, or a malignancy. In this case, electrophoresis is carried out on urine concentrated by dialysis which allows resolution of albumin, the microproteins, transferrin and the globulins. This gives a glomerular-type profile (albumin, transferrin and the globulins), a tubular-type profile (characterized in particular by the absence of beta-2-microglobulin) or a mixed type, either selective or non-selective.
