Theophylline is a methylxanthine drug; a bronchodilator used in therapy for respiratory diseases, mainly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. It is used to prevent and treat wheezing, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing. It relaxes and opens air passages in the lungs, making it easier to breathe. This test is used to monitor the amount of theophylline in the blood, in order to maintain its level in therapeutic concentrations. Symptoms that occur if overdosed: low blood pressure, nausea, nervousness, tachycardia, arrhythmia, convulsions, and coma.

Special Requirements

In accordance with the regulation, all requests must ALWAYS contain: - the sampling date and time, the date and time of the last dose - the reasons for the prescription (efficiency and/or toxicity test) - the treatment start date and/or the date of any change of dosage - the subject's age, height and weight, when possible - the dosage data (quantity administered, frequency, administration route) Always sample at the same time before another administration
